Phone Calls
PHONE CALLS are the primary way we work with clients. Many call directly and many are referred to us by organizations, schools, churches, and local contacts we have established over the years.
Simple Conversations
SIMPLE CONVERSATIONS with clients are the backbone of how we work. Whether the calls are live or CCOC calls clients back after leaving a message, we talk with clients about why they need help. Research is done by CCOC when needed. After understanding the clients story and situation, we may be able to help alone or in coordination with others. Sometimes we cannot help due to various reasons.
Our goal is to keep it simple. No office visit needed, no forms to fill out, just a voice-to-voice conversation gets it started and most of the time is all that is needed.
Research / Referrals / $$
RESEARCH is sometimes needed after listening to the clients story and situation. We may speak with the landlord, employer, vendor or other agencies.
REFERRALS are given to other nonprofit agencies, churches or other resources when our experience shows it may help a client.
$$ PAYMENTS are made on behalf of clients to landlords, mortgage companies, utility companies (electric, gas or water) or other vendors or service providers. We DO NOT send payments to our clients.
Face-to-Face Meetings
Community Chest does not have a brick and mortar location like many of the other local agencies. In our 80 year history, we never had a dedicated office or standalone location. (Please read about our history in the About Us section of the website.)
If we need to meet with clients, we leverage the counties local library locations in Crestwood, Goshen or La Grange like the La Grange location shown on this page. We have also met clients at banks and at their homes or apartments.
When a phone conversation leads to a face-to-face meeting, we have lots of flexibility to meet clients.
Mortgage/Rental Assistance
Depending upon the level of assistance needed, we may be able to help with part of the rent or all of it. We may able be able to partner with other agencies and churches in Oldham County.
Utility Assistance
(Gas, Electric, Water)
We work with LGE/KU to help with electric and gas bills. We work with local water companies to help pay those bills as well. We work companies to help fill LP tanks. Again, it may be part of the bill or all of the bill depending upon the level of assistance needed and our available funds.
Dental, Medical, Eyes
Other Miscellaneous
We can help with small dental, eye or medical needs. We help purchase window air conditioning units if there is a medical need. We help purchase other items if young children are in the household. We help purchase bus tickets for individuals stranded in Oldham County and needing to get home.
